This noteworthy project was born in 2013. Every year, before the start of the tourist season, Split tour guides volunteer their time to the local schoolchildren. The guides become their teachers for an hour or so and they take the kids for a virtual walk through history.
This year some 1,700 third graders, accompanied by their teachers, learned a little more about Diocletian, a Roman emperor, and why he decided to retire in their hometown and not somewhere else. They visited his mausoleum and found out why his remains are nowhere to be found, and a lot more…
But the Palace tour is only half of the project. The second part is the quiz when the rewards are given to the most successful schools. The guides also get invited and they are always happy to see that their knowledge was successfully handed down to the young generations…
I am proud to see my name among some 50 guides who have volunteered this month: https://www.dalmacijadanas.hr/zavrsena-dioklecijanova-skrinjica-projekt-koji-okuplja-vise-od-50-turistickih-vodica-1700-ucenika-i-70-ucitelja
